Abstract: Georgia became a vassal state of Russia in 1783 and it was incorporated into Russia at last as a unique case in the process of Russia conquering Caucasia. That can be rated as “Georgian pattern”. From the 1990s of the 20th century upon to now, both Russian and Georgian historians have made an opposite interpretation of a series of matters of grave importance such as the the Georgian incorporation, etc. Different understanding of such historical issues refl ects a complicated relationship between Georgia and Russia and worsens it. This article will try to go beyond Russian and Georgian positions to revise the historical fact of Georgia’s incorporation into Russia, to analyse the incorporation’s nature and significance and to rectify the popular errors and a “myth” about the incorporation in the two countries.
