Abstract: Since the early 1970s , the Soviet Union set forth changing from extensive to intensive mode of economic growth, but failed due to neglect of economic structure factors. Market economy is the foundation but not the only condition of intensive mode of economic growth. After Russian economic transition to market in the 1990s, the extensive mode of economic growth did not change. China that is also in a transition period should draw lessons from Russia and make a full preparation for a long-term economic transition.
