Abstract: The eruption of the world fi nancial crisis caused the just-rising economy of Russia to suffer heavy losses again. Energy export has been a must for Russia’s economic development. In the post-crisis period, Russia will certainly make use of its energy advantage to develop economy and seek its position in the political and economic fi elds of the world. The CIS has an important place in the Russian energy diplomacy and becomes a priority in it. In the post fi nancial crisis period increases the factors that restrict Russia’s multilateral diplomacy towards the CIS, but Russia’s energy diplomacy towards the CIS is well worth doing only if bypassing the multilateral cooperative framework and adopting a more fl exible and diversifi ed diplomacy.
