Abstract: In the early and late 20th century, almost all of the countries of Central and East Europe chose the Western democratic system, but they met with quite different fate. In the early 20th century, the Western democratic system did not keep a stable foothold and was replaced by a dictatorship in all the countries of CEE except Czechoslovakia. In the late 20th century, the Western democratic system was smoothly practiced and consolidated in the countries of CEE. What the fate of the Western democratic system was depended on the internal factors in CEE, but the external factors also played a key role as this social system could keep running until today.
