Abstract: Pokrovsky was the founder of Soviet history and the historian who was the first to use the stand and method of historical materialism to re-comb and interpret Russia history. He made major contributions to establishing proletarian historiography guided by Marxism, training the fi rst generation of Soviet historians and organizing the proletarian historiography team. After the October Revolution, his historiography works were translated and introduced into China and his historical materialism was also spread in China. The commercial capitalism and despotism he proposed became important concepts in the course of the controversy of Chinese history and had a certain infl uence upon Chinese historiography.
