Abstract: The relationship between version and context is always a hot topic of literary theory studies. All kinds of literary criticism schools in history have different orientations in contextual studies. Clearing up the relationship between version and context is a key to define context. However, beyond all doubt, context is an integral part of literary works. Obviously the conditions in which the contextual analysis is adopted are closely related to the category of context. For Russian literature, context can be divided into three types, i.e. literature context, writer context and historical context. In general, different contexts require a different treatment; context analysis is used with caution.
