Abstract: In the Sino-Russian relationships, geopolitics and safety elements play a key role. But, in the long run, to propel their strategic cooperative partnership to a higher level must have the aid of their high level of economic cooperation and rely on the dependent degree of their economic interests. For twenty years, their economic cooperation has reached a certain level through their mutual efforts, but the general level of their cooperation is not high. Moreover, their trade structure is monotonous and their reciprocal investment scale is very small. In recent years, the favorable elements in the Sino-Russian economic cooperation have increased; in Russia have appeared criticisms against “Chinese threat theory” and propositions of “Chinese opportunity theory”; the economic basis for the Sino-Russian relationships has strengthened; in terms of the two countries’ economic modernization and policy adjustment, both China and Russia have realized that they should expand investment (mainly in energy projects) and strengthen cooperation in technology, communications and transport network, etc. At the same time, we should note that the Sino-Russian economic cooperation will not take wing. Contradictions and confl icts are hard to avoid. Some problems that loom large can be gradually resolved only in the course of cooperation through promoting mutual understanding, enhancing mutual trust and strengthening legislation, etc.
