Abstract: In the time of Stalin, the Soviet Union lost some outstanding economic theorists, because of political and thinking campaigns. For self protection, they were either divorced from academic studies or made alterations in academic professions or threw themselves into the struggle movements launched by the authorities. Either the course of economic policy published in 1936 or the later “Socialist Political Economy” was based on the theory of will alone for the Soviet Union’s economic development. In order to give an important direction of the economic policy a position of objective economic law, Stalin admitted the objective nature of socialist economic law in 1943. It can be seen clearly that Stalin tried hard to give political slogans a scientifi c coat in his work Socialist Economic Questions of the Soviet Union. Generally, Socialist Political Economy, fi rst of all, was established for the Communist Party to resolve ideological tasks. Russia should draw a lesson from the tragic experience of socialist political economy of the Soviet Union so as to turn round the backward state of Russia’s economic sciences.
Key words: Soviet Union; socialist political economy; ideology
