Abstract: As a new type of diplomatic pattern, public diplomacy emerged in the middle of the 20th century. Public diplomacy, as an important part of foreign policy, is conducive to showing a true national image, upgrading an international position, guiding an international public opinion and building a positive national image. Therefore, it invites widespread concerns from the governments of all the countries of the world. Since the Soviet Union collapsed, the Russian government has adopted some measures to eliminate international societies’ bias and misunderstanding against Russia so as to improve its international image and to alleviate internal and external pressure. The establishment of Valdai International Discussion Club is a positive trial for Russia to carry out public diplomacy and to build a good national image.
