Abstract: In the 80s of the 20th century, both China and the Soviet Union gave up the Stalin mode, carried out a socialist reform and looked for a new road to modernization construction. China created economic miracles on the road to a special socialist construction, but the Soviet Union collapsed in the process of transition to a newtype modernization mode. The causes for this were very complicated, but their different national conditions, their different attitude towards their own and the world and their different policies on modernization transition were the main reasons. The time has changed and China and Russia have also changed a great deal. It is clear that one cannot be dumped by the tide of the world development, only if he constantly carries on reform with the time.
Key words: China; Soviet Union; transition to modernization; gain or loss
