Abstract: The Russian Far East is far away from Moscow and sparsely populated, but endowed with rich resources. In recent years, the Far East’s oil and gas exploitation and export has demonstrated a fast increase. Energy resource cooperation is an important fi eld in Japan-Russian economic relations. Meanwhile, the local commercial exchange between the two countries will be also benefi cial to the development of their regional economy. From now on, except reinforcing the bilateral cooperation between Japan and Russia, Japan should actively carry out the multilateral exchange and cooperation with the Far East and the north part of China.
