Abstract: In the 1980s, Koryagin, a psychiatrist of the Soviet Union, suffered wrongful imprisonment for his exposure of the fact that the Soviet government used a mental therapy to persecute dissidents. After Gorbachev was in power, Koryagin was released under double pressure from home and abroad and then he emigrated to Switzerland. After the Soviet Union collapsed, Koryagin returned to Russia and settled down in Yaroslavskaya Oblast. Koryagin event invited widespread concerns in the then international community and brought about a farreaching infl uence.
