Abstract: In the period of “Medvedev-Putin combination”, Russia carried out an international strategy of “stability protection” and cooperation and its key targets were protecting a peaceful and stable international environment, maintaining a Russo-American strategic stability, keeping up a stable tie between Russia and the West and ensuring the situation of Russia’s cooperation with the other nations in the world. Even so, “Medvedev-Putin combination” did not mean to give up a struggle or counterplot. “Medvedev-Putin combination” continued to push on the integration of the CIS at multiple-echelon levels, but hard preserved a pragmatic cooperation partnership between Russia and the EU; “restarted” the Russo-American relations, but did not exceed the “cooperation in the competition pattern”; carried out overall and deep-level talks and cooperation with China and kept pursuing a
positive energy diplomacy at the same time. The diplomatic strategy and policy of “Medvedev-Putin combination” had effectively defended Russia’s national security and sovereignty, promoted its domestic economic development and consolidated its position of great power.
