Abstract: Since 2010, Russia has carried out a policy of moving towards the east, i.e. strengthening its diplomacy and influence in the Asia-Pacific region. The background of this is that Russia needs to merge into the process of economic integration of the Asia-Pacifi c region, Russia is carrying out the Far East and Siberia Development Programs, the security situation of the Asia-Pacifi c region is turbulent and the United States “returns to the Asia- Pacific region”, etc. Russia has made some achievements in taking part in economic cooperation under the framework of the Asia-Pacifi c Economic Cooperation Organization, strengthening its cooperation with the main countries of the Asia-Pacifi c region and defending its east frontier security. Meanwhile, Russia’s policy of marching
towards the east meets with some internal problems, e.g. the Far East and Siberia pressingly need to develop and the fi rst goal of its national foreign policy is to establish the Europe-Asian economic alliance rather than merging into economic integration of the Asia-Pacifi c region. Russia’s policy also meets with some external problems: its economic relations with the most countries of the Asia-Pacifi c region lag behind their political relations, the security situation of the Asia-Pacifi c region is very grave, Russia and Japan have island disputes and the United States “returns to the Asia-Pacifi c region”. The future Russia will continue to carry out the policy of moving towards the east and even deeply participate in the integration of the Asia-Pacifi c region.
