Relationship between Central & Eastern Europe and America after the Cold War

Abstract:The relationship with America is one of the most important facets in the foreign relations of Central & Eastern Europe. Since the transformation 25 years ago, Central & Eastern Europe has been committed to developing bilateral relations with America under the encouragement of state interests. The periods can be divided into several parts, such as romance, new Europe, lost time, and pursuing for re-guarantee, etc. Under the background of US-Europe friction, America strengthens its efforts to find new allies in Europe. It provides political, secure and economic supports for Central & Eastern European countries, expecting to make these countries its partners on major international issues. The relationship between Central & Eastern Europe and America is influenced by mutual cognition of the two sides under new situations; meanwhile, the relationship is also closely related to the evolution of trans-Atlantic relations and the state of the relationship between Russia and the Western countries.
