Abstract:After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova was forbidden from activity. In 1994, the self-proclaimed successor from the Soviet Era Party was approved to register the Communist Party of Moldova as a legitimate political party. Afterwards, the new party won the parliamentary elections in 2001 and 2005, holding the country’s power for eight consecutive years. During its term of office, the Communist Party of Moldova led the country to achieve certain accomplishments economically, politically, socially and diplomatically. The party lost in the 2009 parliamentary election and became the largest opposition party in the parliament, still playing a crucial role in the political arena of Moldova. Should the Communist Party of Moldova intend to rise again, it will face multiple issues such as national unity, economic and social problems, treatment of international relations, and strengthening the party’s unity.
